It was as good an expression as the ad
where he waits in good grace, manages
to fill gaps and paint a door jamb while
she vacillates choosing which outfit she
might wear – far better than I who’d be
immobilised in front of TV hoping she’d
get the drift it was a paper promise, or
me playing Devil’s Advocate to the pits
But there’s no escaping whose idea it is
or whose treat this will be; possibly the
last if my manners don’t improve quick
smart because she’s not even nearing a
getting ready to dress yet state, the art
isn’t lost and I’m awed in complacency
