Doesn’t Suffer Fools Gladly

I heed your education, he said, give me
the quote I need to make this speech
seem pungent; I have an old saying that
might do, ‘doesn’t suffer fools gladly’.

In that context, I said, it will mean you
don’t suffer fools at all, but that isn’t quite
what’s contended; say instead, we badly
needs fools to make us glad.

My Commanding Officer peered at
me with intent. You mean I meant the
opposite from what I said? Warily I
said no. You meant what you said.
