Recycled Water, (Politics Of)

We aren’t exactly drowning in the stuff of life here,
nor are we living in the clouds. But make or break
realities have stilled the raucous crowd.

The here and now of drought
still worsens yet; and if or when
the rains return wont leaven
that – we’re faced with facts
ignored until they cracked in
drained and emptied dams.

That’s past and done, from now the
water let to run away will be retained
and cleaned, re-birthed to use again.

It is obscene the means was known
before the crisis came – recycling
seen a dirty word in this state’s politics.
The easy way to meet a need was build
another dam – the travesty of Traveston
has come to mean exactly that.

But where we sit we also stand to lose
a livelihood, we’re on the edge of envy;
our water is conserved by prudent use
while city burghers and their water thieves
abuse our rights – we can’t gain from
their reuse but bet we’ll have to cede
our pristine water to their damning needs.
