Democracy’s wings
are thought to be
too small to support
free flight – like those
mythologies about
the bumblebee
who delights
in flying free
of aerodynamic reality
& scientific disquiet.
Poets are bumblebees
with autonomous right
to write poetry;
but the buzz alone
delights the bee
completely,
they don’t need
to engage the wings
to achieve a
liftoff parity.
Uncommonly good
common sense if you
ask me. Exercise some
bee democracy
next time you feel
an urge for flight,
make like a
bumblebee and buzz
awhile before
you write.
Trust me,
it averts
the need for
those rocky,
poetic landings!
