Lesson For Today

burp

Awake and waiting for the sun to rise
hides in the lee a tsunami of emotion
generated by a wee lass of less than three

She doesn’t measure the day in opportunity or
see things to grasp like intangible straps hanging
in the aisle of a bus to steady progress

When she wakes the relativity of calm takes
a new turn – we will all pay cuckoo to a tune
she orchestrates with effortless efficiency

And then her infant sister brings back dignity
in a wry-faced burp fresh from the breast – tyranny
ends in a flushed smile, peace returns
