Three Faces And A Kiss
Three faces and a kiss in the
tiles on the bathroom floor;
I only see them from the one place
with the door ajar – embraced
in a mood for contemplation.
The first face is torn by fear, the
shadows etched in taut relief appear
to trace a male’s visage – he is an
anguished sight which draws the eyes;
I do not surmise I know this face.
The second face is a tender one
engaged in a kiss, the eyes closed
and bliss consumes the softened
lines. I conclude this serene face
is the face of a man who is content.
The third face, graced by the kiss, I cannot
see and though obscured from view this
is the face I seem to know. She grows
from the rear of the first face, facing
away, enjoying her languorous kiss.
Should I close the door the scene
sinks back again into terracotta dreams
buried there, trenchant patterns that
permeate this place with these
three faces and a kiss.
