Respectful Sleep

dreams

Sleeping in your magic bed without
you there invents a mystery; I now
regret the atmosphere of doubt it
spawned that sleep imagined had
more clout than that consumed in
snores and dreams – it was a silly
scheme suggesting cynics had to
hold it by the ears in circumventing
fantasies. The truth in lies at best
belies what follows joyful sex, and
that relies on presences which test
the springs a bed always supplies –
and sleep then comes respectfully.
