or late effects of strong coffee
gratuitously sipped after eleven;
it’s three AM

goddamnit – who’s idea was it?
Confessing to analeptic disarray
doesn’t sanction free-range
anarchy, not in my book

at best motives assumed in self-
denial are crude analyses – we
do it and make for extra space
like it seems rational

but we are communicating –
I’m generously awake anyway
and already you’re asleep in
a spare bed of dreams
