Attempting to understand is a bigger
ask than accommodating its mess;
there’s nothing you can do about it –
being a bystander as it came to pass
does not confer culpability and nor is
witnessing prejudged a sign of guilt
or innocence – check airways, stem
bleeding then gracelessly faint
When measurement is made, and it
will be far removed from this reality,
you’ll be eulogised or slated for just
being there; what you do may save
a life but at the World’s end we say
– try not to be the only survivor
