Flavours

Been quite a wilful while since when
that special savour braced its tonic
trace along my tongue – but then I've
been so chastened with romance; so
much a wily taste of this or chary sup
of that to mark a flimsy gustatory
waywardness which some or just a
fatal few would only see too late

And I admit as one who didn't wait
upon a rising sun or raging sea – or
was I more engaged; and poured a
glass of gin perchance to remonstrate
with taste and found the flavours still
appraised to buoy me home again
