Morning Lessons

silence here

This morning’s lesson seemed obvious enough,
if not hearing the words expected – then what
do you hear? Silence is close but not precisely
like something significant, a sinecure to appear
attentive or make simply made-to-order nods
& play ‘au fait’ gestures eloquently; but, still,
the niggling question remained whether there
may have been an assumed a priori reference

Reasoning it is one-sided conversation didn’t
raise eyebrows or stem good cheer, far from
it, with friendly mention of different ways to
appear engrossed at in-theatre masquerades
without endangering the status quo – but of
what was really said, well, you’ll never know
