Insinuation

Insinuations

been less a trial than an ordeal
though the difference couldn’t
rate that much attention – too
far from arraignment or any of
the accusatory claims usually a
bone of courtroom conjecture –
implied innocence or guilt isn’t
at test nor must we answer it

and yet a strained atmosphere
invades where joviality ranged
free, like there is some truth in
it – even if we’re the only ones
who see it this way, estranged
by insinuations of misanthropy
