Animistic Rule

Wasn’t a real attempt to get back to work
more an unconvinced reshuffling of vague
priorities – any inspection of the new crop
makes it plain the trees knew it and were
likewise dubious; the limes offered a bit of
encouragement, there’ll be some fruit on a
few healthier avocados, but reality is that
the ants and mosquitoes do in fact rule

Scratching mosquito bites reminds me of
who sees dedication and industry as inter
meshed, inextricably bound together in a
single endeavour; so it may be to the few
of sufficient resilience to defeat itching –
but not me, I consent this sovereignty
