Pink Sari

Not exactly evading the question – the one
you used to interrogate this nap of shoddy
memory – but you don’t remember do you?
Maybe safe storage changes what we allow
ourselves to recall well, an out-of-sight and
mind idea being the best repository for this
kind of garment, a moss crepe lurex saree,
identified by stencils on its back

No embedded history, let’s give it a legend
from 1973, that flux of ‘where were we’ in
semi-formal outings dressing authentically,
a fancy too probable to dismiss as surreal –
but you don’t remember and the caress of
its silky pink feels semantically effete
