Lost Cause

clip_image001

For a game made popular by its robust
emphasis of manliness – and that’s not
cynicism disguised – the on-field antics
of NRL referees takes a dive into comic
anomie; capriciousness expressed in a
symbolic motion-set signals a lost plot,
and emphatic denial of the game’s aim
to where we’re not even synchronised

From where & why do they get an aim
which has little relevance to the game
players actually play – there’s more of
them whistle-dithering these days than
making differences; risibly they are so
far off the track they’re a lost cause
