Partying, Peninsula style

I have been to parties
where there was no beer
and the singing was
just as good. It wasn’t like
those austere evenings
one remembers with
regret, there was no religion
I understood underlying
events, we harmonised
gracefully and sent our voices
soaring in an ambience of fellowship
and goodwill. Of course I missed
the beer, but what I meant was
it wasn’t the essential ingredient.
