Empathetic Ears

It wasn’t the beer talking late;
claims of words eased liberally
from an habitually unfazed and
frequently taciturn ‘compadre’
links imagining between bottles
emptied & rate of delivery, but
these are old mates used to it –
who give and take naturally

And so unremarkable extremes
of deeds behove he whose word
choice escalates seamlessly in a
company of peers – it wasn’t beer
that rendered complex sentences
friable but empathetic ears
