even the shortest month pays rent,
while February isn’t exempt or just an
afterthought with an extra day added
occasionally, it is a serious beginning
first there’s the advent of closure, the
festive recognition of a year’s ending,
an anarchy of cellar-aberrations such
that January appears a poor hangover
then there’s realisation the new year
is underway, sways with a beat or is
begone in absentia as most of those
things the rest accept interstitially
but today is the dawn of March, take
to your feet; no expression is more
complete and comforting than a call
to stride out your best on this parade
