If it is guilt, why is there a ‘u’ - is
it to benignly screw over anyone
rash enough to think the shine’s
as deep as tomorrow? A scratch
too late is the gilt-thin wise-word
where havoc plays jilt - veneers
are the way of saying don’t look
too obviously for gaudy flaws
a frame of reference to suggest
it isn’t isolation, nor you as sole
witness - but there you are, one
who sees the false patina, feels
pain of rejection, and its shame
