Avenue’s Tunes

An old excuse - but a good ‘un, and
you’re polishing it as if it’s a classic
heirloom you’ve every right to use -
there’s a lineage in train certainly, &
bearers of this name challenged all
for right to do as they wished, which
meant avoiding anything like being
bored by the real prospect of work

Now if it was entertainment there’d
raucous accord too loud to ignore -
it would irk all but familial members
of a cognoscenti steeped in theatre
of the street; and rhythms steal feet
balanced to that avenue’s tunes
