Stella Ingrid

And so Stella Ingrid, enervated at prospect of
buying birthday presents for herself using her
own pre-paid credit card, then wisely stashes
said plastic where she knows it’ll be safe and
disremembers the exact location - it is saying
you’re a member of th’ same family where we
find ourselves detailed in predisposition - and
forget respondency to be the ‘moment’s fun’

So last-minute decisions run amok don’t they;
when you’re freed to think things thru on your
own at your frenetic pace, pressing of buttons
on key isn’t an harmonic you’d tune to; & tho’
you are still assured a role or chorus-part on-
stage - surely you’ll want to play it your way

Not A Treat

You couldn’t see it a treat to be seated comfortably
in front of TV viewing the 2016 US Presidential poll
results as they came to air; well, not unless there’s
eugenic comfort seeing Mr Trump’s arrogance not
slapped in the face - but crikey wasn’t this race as
much a bizarre misère as to where he was always
destined to divorce reality - beholding nothing else
mattered but himself in The White House chair

In any event there’s more to representing a nation’s
people than defining them ‘beneficiaries’ - and from
a mission no less conceived in his aim’s egocentric
pursuit of achievement & greatest of glory - and it’s
there you’ll avail a fair reward, according to himself;
but in truth - only after vivisection of its gory detail

He can’t represent an honest integrity he hasn’t got,
that’s a dispossession which may well be lost on an
unsighted population - altho’ one which, for an age,
the Media’s been mercilessly manipulating..; so we
sit awaiting the verdict debated on whether United
States will be Democrat Blue or Republican Red -

Or on the presidential suitability of either candidate

Survival Implied

Not only did we survive the carpentry section of
Bunnings Warehouse Morayfield, but did it on a
Saturday morning before midday; there’s kudos
implied where anarchic plans lead the way - yet
to find the right stuff quickly resolves all but that
question of who’s in charge; - decidedly not me
I’ll declare and pass in my cards without demur,
cavil or dissent - but I’m available for a rostered

Consideration as Carpenter’s assistant, starting
tomorrow. And wearing a contented smile, shall
now grab a wee forty winks t’ recover from near
exhaustion in being there - no pun intended nor
adventurously implied, although 3:17AM arising
isn’t a routine that I could hope to survive upon

And I must explain, that earliness wasn’t a plan,
design, or from any form of disagreement - its
routine we’ve slowly grown accustomed to, and
product of a new broom called independence of
detachment - we are no-longer casualties of the
what, or whichever, it was we used to be …

Leave It Be

There’d be room for improvement were I able to
see the effort it takes makes seminal sense; but
that is another way to justify being perched on a
fence between reason, pragmatic acceptance &
distant objectives fondly imagined; with all good
intent - as an ideal case, & we’re almost in total
agreement but for whose drop of the penny it is;
though unfortunately this time it can only be me

Thus rhyme hollowly beats on reason about the
innuendo-filled pie whose circumference has its
inference stymied by surrender palpable to that
of ballon-like emptiness; so, you’ll typically float
on high in a trance of misgivings before coming
back to deflate the Mickey within - tho’ we can

Agree - it’s my dilemma - so let’s leave it be

Ross River Virus

Can you confess falling asleep at 9:30am suggests
there are difficulties you need accomodate; well - &
without prejudice ok, but let’s set th’ record straight

it was inchoate nodding off while doing crosswords
on my bed, precursor to normative activities which,
at that time of day, habitually include writing poetry

and you can see the latency did come to pass; this
is that sojourn’s eccentricity parsed into verse, tho’
in a word - potentially - thus we may have one writ

that is not to say any events preceding didn't need
investigation: didn’t awaken too early, 6:00am was
registered without a vague, precursor fuzziness of

clearly earlier yet random recollections - tho’ there
had been some uneasiness in drifting off after US
Presidential elections of the evening before, - & I

wouldn’t have been alone in that; who’d’ve wished
a more unsettling outcome - or farcical potential to
change future events into dire and utter Trumpery -

but we digress; why did a sleep-need progress to
the point where it thumped drums of discontent, &
are we to take it as portent of things ‘yet to come’ -

in my own defence there’s no prejudice expressed,
less that one concern caused by ‘influenza effects’
of Ross River Virus gripping me - my best take is

remaining on homeopathic prescribed medication
until its constituency ends; and hopefully that will
be well before the event of a next election …

Supermoon

So far today its been a two-coffee intro to awakening
realities not evident yesterday; & Lorikeets inimitably
in a crowd-rousing debate expressed concerns as to
my responsibilities for spreading sunflower seeds at
places they habituate - and appropriately appending
squawking akin to profuse ‘colloquial’ abuse - just in
case my hearing aids weren’t in; so, having already
had to solve slow water-delivery problems to get the

washing machine functioning normally, I’m piqued in
a manner appropriate to the house-husbanding beat
of rhythms I am supposed to mythically understand -
even Magpie encroachment on Kookaburra territory,
the Hills Hoist clothesline - got a foot in the door; ok,
I agree, there’s a lot more learning and I’ll get into it

but first please give me a wee bit of peace; that 2nd
coffee has a characteristic buzz I’m remembering, if
not revelling in, from back a ways; yeah, olden days
when the pace wasn’t frenetic, and listening to ABC
morning news not a trial by ordeal; then there’s that
other weird explanation of an enlarged ‘supermoon'

being an upbeat to contend with this week …

Festive Bloom

A day within and cooler air - there’s gratitude in
time and space that lets us rest at ease - & this
conveys our thanks in quietude like tiny finches
flicking thru th’ foliage a-feast on Xmas eve. It’s
here again, you’ve hardly seen th’ year rush by;
recent heat’s now blessed of rain, grey-clad sky
allays distress which shrewed as callouses into
absurdity we needed least for Christmas day

But now I see resplendent blooms; they’re ones
that we address as Jesus in the Cradle, or Belle
of the Night (from cactus pitahaya*), aka dragon
fruit - a night blooming Cereus - which has other
names such as Cinderella Plant - or Strawberry
Pear - and its there - resplendently in full view

We’ve been reassured whatever else claimed in
that xmas iconic imagery has eccentrically failed
to dent th’ magnificence of our pitahaya - & we’ll
bow with due ceremony to its short-lived - altho’
appropriately occasioned - festive bloom; which
taketh our place of pride come Christmas Day

Emissary Need

If you write every day without the need for emissary
words - you’re freed to express those inward trends
too gauche for the literati; as if you’re likely to share
‘em ordinarily - but there are jewels & gems - some
so rare polishing them blinds everyone equally -

It is like learning to hear the subtlety in a tune when
played by an ear too abstruse to be copy, original &
out where the icons are first birthed - like measures
the cognoscenti instantly recognise as unassailable
and blend incontrovertibly into the soothing scene

And then there’s the agenda team corresponding in
their factotum sense of what matters, by expression
and riposte, following an order digested as the best
use of words within a tier of sustainable interjection
where meanings and agreements are their rules

In my trade the tools are an inner ear unaffected by
hot air and raucous discontent - the rhythm is leant
upon originality freed of onomatopoeic contempt or
metric mutuality & there’s no ‘agenda’ I’m aware of
excepting the refreshingly fey freedom to be me

Diminuendo

While trying to understand I’m encountering bits
which didn’t initially seem to be part of the plan -
they’re those cleverly disguised if, but & maybe
contingencies where all or every is rephrased in
subtly couched denials of liability; th’ sales pitch
claimed there’s no exception or qualification - &
came across loud and clear - but when we look
for the said Highway of Stairs to Heaven - well

It just isn’t there - at least not as they described
it; you remember the phraseology where words
were worth preserving as icons of our common
sense & sanity prevailed - huh - reread the text,
subtlety avails itself again of plausible alternate
meanings to what was a cast iron guarantee

Never Bested

Wearing a fine merino sweater in bed doesn’t
stretch credibility does it, altho there’s implied
airs of raiment elegance clashing only with th’
‘bath-robe cum dressing-gown’ you wrap over
your pyjamas to effect an hour of comfortable
reading after our 4am cup of latte; well, you’d
have reminded me of my turn while snuggling
in duvet-deep but instead, dressed gracefully,

Braving a morning’s frostiness, & brewed our
espresso making any awakening meaningful -
a ritual worth remembering; so thus, as much
as the dressing-gown plays odds as an over-
powering statement, there’s no way its going
to bested be by a merino sweaters presence

Only Your Neighbours

Our yokel gun-clubbers were at it again on Sunday;
it isn’t all that rare an event - out in the countryside
there’s space enough to accomodate a hoot or two,
but not for hours on end, and there was a previous
warmup afternoon; wishing they’d go elsewhere, &
preferably many kms away to blaze off ammo, is a
reaction lucid to yobbo largesse, especially when
that's lots of rapid-fire, double-tap shotgun blasts

Asking th’ local coppers whether there are grounds
to complain is compared with being un-neighbourly;
maybe, is their answer but if they’ve all appropriate
permits & licences - which is the logical proposition,
you’d need Council’s noise ban in place to enforce
what passes for a tranquil - and 'ordinary' Sunday

So we’ll have t’ weather th’ storm until their ammo’s
expended unless we’re of the kind who’d return fire,
which wouldn’t engender peace of mind. But if we’d
asked where exactly their rounds impact & whether
we’d be within range, an accurate answer has to be
probably, but with guarantees okayed by a permit’s

Assurance - after all, they’re only your neighbours

Porting Practically

If it was patience and fond belief then I’ll take the
accolade - but you’d hardly say I suffered silently,
and any way you review it there’ll be sides you’d
likely disport or barrack for, simply because you
have the right; for an age, I thought I didn’t have
a leg either way but then today’s message came
and I’m in with my old mobile number to boot -
blessing which Virgin Mobile finally delivered me

So I express my gratitude by not swearing aloud -
eight treks to the hilltop may have increased that
endurance index one brags about but my legs in
evidence state it was Hell and porting your old #
that way’s ridiculous, especially if a no reception
zone indice separates only wolves from lambs

But we’re there & I don’t need to advise contacts
of a new mobile number they’ll immediately lose,
although they’ll still remark, what’ve you gained
I chose the status quo which is in knowing that it
was my choice exactly, & altho nothing changed,
we’ll still see the same future more practically …

Paper Consensus

Well, whatever the 2016 Census fuss was about
it must have taken th’ cake - hackers seem to’ve
made serial effort to obtain access - and/or data -
or whatever, from that on-line website where you
could complete electronic forms and file returns if
you’re of that mind - & it forced authorities t’ shut
down the site; gee, what the *ell were they up to,
or after, if not th' data we're told was truly secure

Okay, we did it on paper, the old way, meeting all
their requirements easily within the time frame of
Tuesday evening & into the post box Wednesday
without hacker abuse; but it’s intriguing to view a
a kerfuffle where technology was bent out of all
credible shape to reduce, or excuse, paper use
